An EMF Awareness workshop to remove myths about ill health effects of radiations from Mobile Towers was organized by Department of Electronics Engineering, J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad in collaboration with the Department of Telecom, Haryana LSA. Sh. Amar Relan, Director, DoT gave a presentation on the topic & explained to the students that radiations from Mobile Towers are Non ionizing radiations & the emission levels are below the limits prescribed by DoT, Govt. of India. Further in India the prescribed emission limits are 1/10th of levels prescribed internationally by ICNIRP (International Commission on Non Ionizing radiation protection). In addition to the Self Certifications by the Telecom Service Providers, the radiation levels from the towers are randomly tested by DoT teams. He also gave a practical demo on how the radiation level is measured in field by DoT team.

Sh.Amar Relan also told that it has been brought to the notice of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that some agencies/individuals cheat general public by promising them hefty monthly rental payment and ask them to deposit money in their account as security deposit etc. After collecting the money these agencies become unreachable. He told that DoT/TRAI is not directly or indirectly involved in renting the premises for installation of mobile tower. In case any agency/individual is asking for advanced or for application fee or for money in any form before actual installation of tower, public is hereby cautioned to be extra careful and verify the credentials of the company. Normally, No TSP or IP is asking for any advance or any money for payment of any tax or for any other reason.
