The university has launched a project to build an English for Specific Purpose (ESP) dictionary to aid students pursuing higher education in technical domains. We are glad to share the prototype created under the kind aegis of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Professor (Dr) SK Tomar.
This project was purposely meant to be an aid to those who operate in technical domains and corporate environments. The dictionary will be immeasurably useful to those who wish to attain bilingual proficiency in use of technical terms and is specifically aimed to benefit Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students.
This visual cum verbal dictionary of technical terms facilitating bilingual (English to Hindi) use in corporate, academic and business interactions has been prepared by the Research scholars in the Department of Literature and Languages under the supervision of Dr Divyajyoti Singh, Professor of English, Department of Literature and Languages. To sustain the interest of the users, representative images have been used to light-up the pages.
The prototype could be run on blogs and dummy sites. However, the present team will welcome techno-savvy assistance which can turn this ESP dictionary into an invaluable computer-application-based dictionary. In its present form, the dictionary covers the alphabets from A- E. If the prototype is further approved, it can be further developed to include the whole gamut of technical alphabet and terms.
Amongst the state universities, JC Bose University of Science and Technology, Faridabad is distinguished for its earmark projects. It has spearheaded numerous flagship campaigns and its initiatives have proven to be the bellwether for other institutions of higher learning. The present dictionary will be a notable contribution to the illustrious series of its ingenious projects in the domain of technical education.
