• Report on MATHS FEST’19 In order to develop interest and skill in mathematics, the Department of Mathematics of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad has organized Maths Festival 2019 and conducted various competitions including Quiz, Rangoli (Rangometri) and PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) competition. More than 120 students from 46 Colleges and Universities of Faridabad and NCR participated in the festival. The inaugural session commenced with lighting of traditional lamp followed by welcome address by Dr. Neetu Gupta, Chairperson of Mathematics Department in which she gave an overview of the Department. Dr. Renu Chugh, Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak was the Chief Guest in the inaugural session which was presided over by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Vice Chancellor of the University. Dr. Renu Chugh gave an expert lecture on ‘Fuzzy mathematics, Fractals and Chaos’. Speaking on this occasion, Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of mathematics as an academic subject and spoke about the extensive scope that mathematics offers to students. He also highlighted the fact that ‘math’ is the heart of any engineering stream. He said that Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Software Applications and Computer Programs make extensive use of mathematics and its applications. He asked the faculty and students to take interest in the mathematical research and extended best wishes for the success of the program. In the competitions conducted by the Mathematics Department, a team of Aadesh Sharma and Manish Chauhan from Motilal Nehru College, Delhi won the first prize in quiz competition. Sunny, Subhash and Amrit from Ramanujan College, Delhi bagged second position and Harender, Payal Goyal and Abhishek from Nehru College, Faridabad got the third position. Similarly, in the PPT competition, Payal and Anjali from J.C. Bose University won first prize, Pooja and Jyoti from Aggarwal College, Ballabgarh got second prize and Ravinder and Nisha from Nehru College, Faridabad bagged third prize. In Rangomatri Competition, Drishti and Sunaina from J.C. Bose University won first prize, second prize bagged by Neetu and Bharti from Saraswati Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Palwal and third prize secured by Bhawana and Swati from Aggarwal College, Ballabgarh. On this occasion, the students of the University also presented cultural performances which were highly appreciated by all. In the valedictory session, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions. The program was coordinated by Ms. Nisha Singh and Ms. Hemlata Aggarwal.
