• Report on Webinar on Applications of Mathematics in Sc. and Tech.
A webinar on Applications of Mathematics in Science and Technology commenced successfully on June 09, 2020. This webinar had been organized by the Department of Mathematics, J. C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA to enhance the understanding of mathematical knowledge among undergraduate and post-graduate students. As the title suggests, the objective of this particular webinar was to introduce some of the basic applications of Mathematics. It also focused on different skills to improve the background knowledge and teaching skills of teachers to add value to their teaching. This certainly helped young mathematicians to learn mathematics in an enjoyable way.
The participants were welcomed by Dr. Neetu Gupta (Chairperson) and by Dr. Suraj Goyal, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics. The webinar was presided over by Prof. Dinesh Kumar, Honorable Vice Chancellor, J. C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA, while all the faculty members of the Department of Mathematics were also present during the event. Prof. Dinesh Kumar formally welcomed Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, the eminent speaker for the webinar. Nearly 200 participants, who included well-qualified faculty members and students from various colleges and university across the country, attended the webinar. The resource person for this webinar was Prof. Sushil Kumar Tomar, from the Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, who is an elected fellow of national academy of sciences and is a well-known mathematician. He is known to be a man with few words but brilliant mind. Prof. Tomar has more than 100 publications in the journals of international repute. He has visited various international institutes all around the world such as University of Glasgow, UK; Institute of Mechanics, Ruhr University, Germany; Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary etc. He has also presented his work in various international conferences held in various countries such as Switzerland, Canada, China, Spain etc. He has a never-ending list of awards and honors under his name. His lecture included real life as well as engineering applications of Mathematics. He explained various mathematical models and simplified those for the better understanding of the participants. The eminent researchers shared his immense knowledge with the participants. The webinar was well appreciated by all the participants. At the end, Prof. answered the queries raised by the participants. In last, Dr. Neetu Gupta gave a vote of thanks to Prof. Tomar on behalf of the Department. Dr. Gupta also congratulated Dr Suraj Goyal and other faculty members, for handling such webinar in a well organised manner.
