2020-21 on 20-21 jan Seminar on "Optimization Techniques and Stochastic Process"

Report: Seminar on "Optimization Techniques and Stochastic Process" Day 1 Department of Mathematics, J. C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA, Faridabad has organized a two days seminar. The seminar, entitled "Optimization Techniques and Stochastic Process" was sponsored by Haryana State Council of Science, Innovation and Technology. The event was held on 20-21 January 2021. As the title suggests, the objective of this particular seminar was to introduce some of the basic applications of Mathematics among the UG, PG and research scholars of the Department. It also focused on different scopes and applications of optimization techniques. This certainly helped young mathematicians to learn Mathematics in an enjoyable way. The event was started by Saraswati Vandana followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Reena Garg, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and coordinator of the event. Then Dr. Neetu Gupta, Chairperson of the Department has told few words about present strength and status of the Mathematics Department. Then Dr. Reena has invited Prof. Ashutosh Dixit, Dean, Faculty of Sciences of the University for motivating participants with his words. Dr. Dixit has more than 16 years of teaching experience and he has published more than 80 research papers in various International journals and conferences of repute. He has successfully supervised 7 PhD theses and currently supervising 2 PhD research scholars. Prof. Dixit has told about the applications of Optimization techniques in his research area which includes Internet and Web Technologies, Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Networks and Mobile and Wireless communications. He thanked Dr. Madhu Jain for being with us. The resource person for this seminar was Prof. Madhu Jain from Department of Mathematics from IIT Roorkee. She has acquired her PhD in Mathematics and her research interests are Computer Communications Networks, Performance Prediction of Wireless Systems, Networking, Operations Research, Stochastic Processes, Queueing theory, Inventory Models, Software and hardware, Industrial Mathematics, Mathematical Modelling, Biomathematics. She has experience of 34 years of teaching and has guided more than 50 PhD students She has published more than 400 papers in the journals of international repute with high impact factors and also have authored 20 books. She was awarded many prestigious awards like the Young Scientist Project Award in the Department of Science & Technology (DST) by DAV (PG) College, Dehradun in 1992, the Career Award, University Grant Commission (UGC) by IIT, Delhi in 1994 etc. In her introductory talk, Madhu mam has told us about "Stochastic Modelling of Hardware and Software Systems". She has mentioned different fields like Research and Development, National planning and budgeting, agriculture and irrigation where optimization techniques can be used. The next speaker of the day was Dr. Harish Garg from Thapar University, Patiala. He has spoken about "Multi Criteria Decision Making- An Optimization Technique". He has described the decision making theory with several interesting examples. He also spoke about the extended application of decision making in probabilistic theory, game theory and fuzzy set theory with simple practical examples. The last speaker of the first day was Prof. Rajeev Kumar from Department of Mathematics of MDU, Rohtak. The eminent speaker was talking about different basic concepts of Stochastic process. The seminar on first day was ended by saying thanks by the coordinator to all the participants who are attending this online program to learn about Optimization Techniques. Day 2 In the next day of the seminar first speaker was Prof. Anu Aggarwal from Department of Operational Research of Delhi University, Delhi. She has told about basics of Queuing Theory. Next speaker of the day is Dr. Rakhi from Birla Institute of Technology and sciences, Pilani. She has told about “Applications of Stochastic Processes in Performance Analysis of Communication Networks”. She has also introduced Markov Chains and their applications. She also told about transition probabilities. The last speaker of the second day was Prof. C.K. Jaggi from Department of Operational Research of Delhi University, Delhi. He spoke about “Inventory Management “ in his talk. He introduced inventory and it’s types. The program is ended by valuable feedbacks of participants and by thanking the speakers as well as the participants by Dr. Neetu Gupta.
