Fit-Festivus

UCC&DA in collaboration with Department of Computer Engineering organized a 2-days workshop FIT-FESTIVUS- A Family Fitness Funshop on 30th April & 1st May 2021 under the expert guidance of renowned celebrity coach Ms. Meenal Pathak. The workshop was attended by more than 250 students and faculty members from different departments of the University. Ms. Meenal is a well-known Celebrity Fitness Coach and founder of Mee-Studio. She has been on various National News Channels like Zee TV, NewsX, India News, Zee Business etc. for her work. She has also shot a Fitness Series for FitTak, Aajtak. The workshop was based on the fact that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. The purpose was to spread happiness and positivity in the society during this pandemic. So, keeping this thought in mind, this workshop provided a platform to students & faculty members to get involved in physical exercises, fun and to bring out their creativity. This fitness workshop also aimed to make participants aware about how to keep their family and themselves fit during this difficult time. The Fit-Festivus workshop started with welcome note by Dr. Neelam Duhan, Director University Computer Centre and Digital Affairs. Prof. Komal Bhatia, Dean (Faculty of Informatics & Computing) and Chairperson, Department of Computer Engineering put a light on importance of such kind of fitness campaigns and addressed the audience. Registrar Dr. S. K. Garg, enlightened the audience with importance of physical exercises in reducing the stress levels and maintaining balance in their lives. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar expressed pleasure towards the organizers for conducting these kinds of workshops during this pandemic and harsh times. He motivated and conveyed the audience that along with academics, such types of activities are important for healthy and peaceful mind. All should devote a fraction of the whole day towards physical exercises, he added. Ms. Meenal started the workshop by giving tips on how to reduce stress. She demonstrated beautifully some exercises which are beneficial for reducing the stress. In the Zumba session, along with Ms. Meenal, students and teachers also participated. According to her, Zumba not only makes your body flexible and fit, but also uplifts your mood and makes you more energetic to do tasks. She also discussed sleep routine, exercises and diet specifically during this pandemic time when classes are carried out in online mode. At the end, Ms. Meenal demonstrated some yoga poses which can be practiced at any time of the day for making people relaxed. She also suggested some eyes exercises which are very helpful for making the eyes refresh. Various other activities were also conducted by students on the second day like Folkfare, Phir-se-Akbar-Birbal and Imagine-the-World during the workshop. Folkfare consisted of different songs that allowed and motivated students to dance at their place and enjoy the event. Phir-se-Akbar-Birbal consisted of different story lines which were to be completed by participants as per their creativity. Imagine-the-World, where students were shown some blurred images and asked to describe the picture as per their perceptions to improve the concept of thought. Participants enjoyed a lot during these events. The workshop was organized by students under the supervision of Prof Komal Kumar Bhatia, Dr Neelam Duhan, Dr Deepika Punj and Dr Rewa Sharma. The student coordinators Mr. Praveen, Ms. Shradha, Mr. Mandeep and Mr. Prajwal wonderfully managed the different events during the workshop along with other student coordinators.
