Department of Physics

The department of physics was running in the University under department of humanities and applied sciences, since 2006. The department got its own stature in 2019. The department is known for maintaining quality teaching and a cutting edge research aptitude in the University and has a number of good profile faculty members. The key research areas include pervoskite based photovoltaic materials, advanced composite materials, multiferroic materials, composites of conducting polymers, radiation detection and plasma. The department is progressing toward excellence in research, under the able leadership of Dr. Anuradha Sharma, who is a dynamic teacher and a researcher. Her guidance, cooperation and support is raising the department to new heights.

The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The undergraduate program of the department is Bachelor’s degree of Honours in Physics (B.Sc. (H) Physics) with an intake of 60 students. The postgraduate program is Master’s degree in Physics (M.Sc. Physics) with an intake of 60 students. Both the programs have renowned names in the region and state. The high percentage students (above 80%) are able to get admissions in these programs.

The department also offers doctoral degree program (Ph.D.) to the eligible candidates in accordance with the UGC 2009 regulation. The enrolment in the program is based on the rules framed by UGC and the additions made by the University. There is an entrance test for those candidates who have not qualified the CSIR/UGC-NET or JRF examination. The department has five well furnished teaching laboratories including one computer lab for imparting practical knowledge and laboratory skills.  The teaching labs have all the necessary and essential apparatus handled by a trained technical staff assigned to the lab. The department also have two research laboratories with a number of minor research equipments available for the synthesis of smart and composite materials, multiferroics etc. The major characterization tools (like X-Ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Microscope, FTIR spectrophotometer, UV-Vis Spectrometer and others) are available in the University as central instrumentation laboratory. The strategic plan of the department for 2020-2025 is: Strategic Plan| Department of Physics.
