The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning course provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical training to install, service, maintain and update refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will receive a Diploma in 1 year. The AC and Refrigeration technician is trained to design, install, and service air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment in business, residential and light commercial offices. There is an obvious need for qualified technicians in this field and the industry is focused on keeping people comfortable. The A/C and refrigeration industry are one of the most demanding industry. In order to accomplish work completion in the given time frame, it takes a dedicated person who is willing to set goals and work hard.
Objectives:
- Learning the fundamental principles and different methods of refrigeration and air conditioning.
- Study of various refrigeration cycles and evaluate performance using Mollier charts and/ or refrigerant property tables.
- Comparative study of different refrigerants with respect to properties, applications and environmental issues.
- Understand the basic air conditioning processes on psychometric charts, calculate cooling load for its applications in comfort and industrial air conditioning.
- Study of the various equipment-operating principles, operating and safety controls employed in refrigeration air conditioning systems
Careers & Employability
Refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) engineers design, install and maintain cooling systems in buildings like supermarkets, offices, schools, hospitals and food processing plants. our work could cover one of two broad areas:
- Refrigeration –designing, installing and maintaining cooling systems in places like supermarkets, restaurants, hospitals, food processing plants and factories.
- Air-Conditioning – installing and servicing systems that control air quality, temperature and humidity inside offices, schools, leisure complexes and other modern buildings.
Outcomes of the course
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:
- Work safely and in accordance with all applicable acts, regulations, legislation, and codes to ensure personal and public safety.
- Select and use a variety of refrigeration, and air conditioning tools and equipment safely and properly.
- Operate power and service tools safely and properly including and not limited to reciprocating saws, power-actuated fastener systems, vacuum pumps, gauge manifolds, refrigerant reclaim units, power drills, screw guns, material lifts, and man lifts.
- Operate and read test instruments including and not limited to air velocity meters, compound gauge meters, pressure meters, temperature sensing meters, flow meters, and electrical meters.
- Use appropriate types of condensers, compressors, evaporators, and metering devices in order to install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning units..
